Part of Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site, the museum is sited on cliffs overlooking the harbour at Maryport. The oldest antiquarian collection in the country, including artefacts from the adjacent Roman fort including the mysterious Serpent Stone, one of the many Celtic religious sculptures.

The Helena Thompson Museum was originally a house known as Park End, where Helena Thompson lived for most of her life. The beautiful property and exquisite contents was gifted to the community after her death, under the condition that it be turned into a municipal museum for Workington. Today visitors are treated to the architectural beauty of the building as well as an extensive collection of treasures belonging to Thompson and the town.
